Sierra Pecheur

DIG, my new ongoing project, demanded that I explore the propaganda of mythology. It insisted I bring others into the process. It asked questions and wanted answers. It challenged what I thought I knew about our human condition and our place in history. It made it clear that this would be my life’s work. The sculptures portray the evolution of two myths. Medusa represents women. Daedalus & Icarus represent men. I imagine what the truth of these stories might have been, and then sculpt them into reality. In conjunction with the exhibitions, the public participates in workshops to create small sculptures that represent what they want to say about themselves, what they want to leave behind, perhaps to be excavated 1,000 years from now.
